LY Contemporary Artist in Residence Programme

About the Residency
LY Contemporary invites emerging and established artists, curators, researchers and writers working within the field of Visual Art and Photography to apply for our residency programme on the island of Møn, Denmark.
The residency combines focused time for creative development with professional mentorship and personal wellbeing. Set within the peaceful landscape of Møn, the programme offers an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with your practice, and develop new work in a supportive and restorative environment.
Residents are encouraged to use the time and space according to their individual needs and working methods, while also taking part in a shared environment of exchange and reflection. Residents will have the opportunity to participate in events and open studios, offering a chance to share their work and ideas with other residents, artists and the local community.
The residency is located at Klintevej 110B, just a five-minute drive from the main town of Stege and only 20 minutes from Møns Klint, the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by Møn’s distinctive natural landscape, the location offers a peaceful setting while remaining connected through public transport to nearby towns and cities, such as Copenhagen and Malmö.
What We Offer
Accommodation: Private room in a fully equipped apartment shared with two other residents. The apartment includes a large kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom with shower, laundry facilities and a large garden with a patio.
Studio & Facilities: Each resident has access to a dedicated studio space equipped with a table, chair, shelving and wall space for mounting and displaying work.
Other facilities available upon request:
- Easels
- Basic wood workshop with technical support
- Basic photography setup, including lighting and backdrop
- Basic printmaking press and A3+ paper cutter
- A2+ and A3+ photo printers (fee applies)
Professional Mentorship: Each resident is offered two hours of one-to-one conversation per month with an experienced artist or curator, providing feedback and space for reflection on your practice.
Personal wellbeing: The programme places emphasis on personal wellbeing and the connection to nature. At the beginning of each month, a guided nature walk is offered to get acquainted with specific parts of Møn. Residents will also receive information and suggestions for exploring Møn’s nature independently, encouraging them to discover the landscape at their own pace and according to their individual interests. Yoga mats and meditation facilities are available on site and additional yoga sessions or nature-based activities can be arranged nearby upon request.
Who Can Apply
The programme is open to emerging and established artists, curators, researchers and writers working within the field of Visual Art and Photography.
We welcome applicants who are seeking dedicated time to develop their practice, engage in meaningful dialogue, and reconnect with themselves, their work, and the natural environment.
The working language of the residency and all mentorship sessions is English.
Residency fee
Residency Fee: €900 per month
Application Fee: Free
Deposit: 15% of the residency fee must be paid within two weeks of receiving the invitation. The remaining balance must be paid no later than two weeks before arrival.
When an application is accepted, residents will receive a formal Letter of Invitation from LY Contemporary, which can be used to support applications for travel and residency funding from cultural institutions in their home countries.
Applicants are responsible for securing their own travel and residency funding.

1. Artist Statement: A brief overview of your artistic or professional practice and its key themes. Maximum 300 words.
2. Proposal / Letter of Intent: Please outline what you would like to focus on during your residency and why the environment and programme at LY Contemporary would be beneficial to your practice. Maximum 300 words.
3. Website / Portfolio: Please include a link to your website OR send us your portfolio
Visual Artists:
Up to 10 images of recent work, including title, dimensions and medium.
Curators / Writers / Researchers:
Up to 10 images of recent exhibitions and/or writing samples of up to 5 pages / 2,000 words.
4. CV / Résumé: Relevant education, exhibitions, publications, projects, grants or other professional experience. Maximum 2 pages.
5. Preferred Residency Duration: Please indicate your preferred residency period (1, 2, or 3 months) and your preferred dates within March, April and May 2027.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by the LY Contemporary board.
Selection will be based on the quality and relevance of the applicant’s practice, the potential for meaningful development during the residency and the suitability of the proposed project or period of research to the residency environment.
Successful applicants will be notified by October 15, 2026.
